Broken Volumes
The Broken Volume Series stems from my time as an industrial steel worker at my family’s 134 year steel fabrication business, Bemberg Iron Works, in Little Rock Arkansas. Each piece in the Broken Volume Series is created from flat sheet steel. Flat sheet is formed by hand on a bending brake, fabricated into 3” diameter faceted tubing, then cut and reassembled into sculptural wall forms. I rely heavily on the industrial aesthetic as inspiration for this work.

This is the first panel piece of the Broken Volume Series. After working on this series for a year or so, I found myself drawn to the interior of the formed tubing during the process of creating new pieces. This panel piece was my solution to highlight that interior.

This piece is fabricated from numerous leftover segments cut in preparation to make a large 4’0” diameter ring, hence the title ‘Arc.’ I left a raw finish on this piece to highlight the different tonal colors of the various sheets used in the creation process, then sealed it with a wax.
